The Cathaoirleach of the County of Galway has paid tribute to the Galway Senior Footballers following their defeat to Armagh in the All-Ireland Senior Football Final at Croke Park.

Councillor Albert Dolan said, “On behalf of the Elected Members and staff of Galway County Council, I want to congratulate Padraic Joyce, his management team, captain Seán Kelly and the squad for the honour and pleasure they have brought to the people of Galway during 2024. The pride, passion and skill demonstrated by this group of players and management during this year’s Championship is a tribute to everybody associated with Galway football.”

“The performances, including in the Connacht Championship and in the wins over Dublin and Donegal, are a wonderful demonstration of the sporting talent that exists in County Galway and how our footballers are able to compete with the game’s top intercounty sides,” he added. “Their narrow loss in the final will come as a bitter blow to the group but I have no doubt they will come back stronger as they bid to win The Sam Maguire in 2025.”

“The people of Galway are a proud people with an unrivalled passion for sport. Whether it be in Pearse Stadium, Eamon Deacy Park or the Dexcom Stadium, you can be guaranteed that the people of Galway will be there to support their team. We have followed our footballers through good times and bad times, and we will continue to do so,” concluded the Cathaoirleach.

Liam Conneally, Chief Executive of Galway County Council commented, “I wish to congratulate the team and management, and everyone associated with Galway GAA on their memorable 2024 Championship campaign. This group of players have done their county proud, and we look forward to welcoming them home to Galway tomorrow night.”

Tugann an Cathaoirleach ómós d’fhoireann na Gaillimhe tar éis dóibh an cluiche ceannais in aghaidh Ard Mhaca a chailleadh

Tugann Cathaoirleach Chontae na Gaillimhe ómós do Pheileadóirí Sinsearacha na Gaillimhe tar éis dóibh Cluiche Ceannais Sinsir Peile na hÉireann in aghaidh Ard Mhaca a chailleadh i bPáirc an Chrócaigh.

Dúirt an Comhairleoir Albert Dolan, “Thar ceann Chomhaltaí Tofa agus fhoireann Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe, ba mhaith liom comhghairdeas a dhéanamh le Pádraic Joyce, lena fhoireann bainistíochta, leis an gcaptaen Seán Kelly agus leis an scuad as an onóir agus an sásamh a thug siad do mhuintir na Gaillimhe le linn 2024. “Is mór an teist do gach aon duine atá bainteach le peil na Gaillimhe é an bród, an paisean agus an scil a léirigh an grúpa imreoirí agus bainistíochta seo.”

“Is léiriú iontach iad na taispeántais sa Chraobh Chonnacht agus sna buanna in aghaidh Bhaile Átha Cliath agus Dún na nGall den tallann spóirt a mhaireann i gContae na Gaillimhe agus den chaoi a bhfuil ár bpeileadóirí in ann dul in iomaíocht leis na foirne idirchontae is fearr sa spórt,” a chuir sé leis. “Is trom an buille é an caillteanas don ghrúpa ach níl amhras ar bith agam go dtiocfaidh siad ar ais níos láidre agus iad ag iarraidh Corn Mhig Uidhir a bhuachan in 2025.”

Dúirt Liam Conneally, Príomhfheidhmeannach Chomhairle Chontae na Gaillimhe, “Is mian liom tréaslú leis an bhfoireann, leis an mbainistíocht agus le gach aon duine a bhfuil baint acu le CLG na Gaillimhe as a bhfeachtas Chraobh 2024 speisialta. Is mór an t-údar bróid é an grúpa imreoirí seo dá gcontae, agus táimid ag súil go mór le fáilte abhaile a chur rompu nuair a thiocfaidh siad ar ais go Gaillimh oíche amárach.”
