Public’s input sought on new Burren & Cliffs of Moher shuttle bus service

Public’s input sought on new Burren & Cliffs of Moher shuttle bus service
April 1, 2025 by Dunphy Communications

A new hop-on hop-off shuttle bus service linking towns, villages and visitor attractions throughout North and West Clare is the subject of public consultation and engagement sessions taking place in Miltown Malbay and Kilfenora on Monday (April 7, 2025) and Tuesday (April 8, 2025) next.

The free “Burren and Cliffs Explorer” set to be launched by Clare County Council, in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), this summer will be open to online and onsite bookings.

Operating as a pilot project from May 1 to August 31 with the potential to extend into September, the shuttle bus will serve Corofin, Carran, Kilfenora, Doolin, Liscannor and Lahinch, as well as the hub locations of Lisdoonvarna and Miltown Malbay, where free car parking will be provided. The scheduled service will also serve landmark attractions such as the Burren National Park and the Cliffs of Moher Experience.

The Local Authority and NPWS are inviting residents, businesses and key stakeholders to share their views to help shape the future of the initiative by attending public consultation events in Miltown Malbay Community Centre on Monday and at the Burren Centre in Kilfenora on Tuesday, with both sessions taking place from 5pm to 7pm.

Representatives of the Cliffs of Moher Experience and the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, Clare County Council and NPWS will be in attendance to provide additional information and answer questions.

Siobhan McNulty, Director of Tourism Development with Clare County Council said the Burren and Cliffs of Moher Explorer will provide flexible and convenient transportation that enables locals and visitors to explore the region’s natural and cultural attractions at their own pace.

“The development of tourism in the wider North Clare area must be done sustainably and continue to be inclusive of the views of local communities, which is why we are seeking the public’s input on the roll-out of the new shuttle service,” she explained.

“The free, bookable service is designed to enhance the visitor experience while supporting sustainable tourism and driving economic benefits for local communities. The feedback received to date has been very positive due to the initiative’s focus on improving connectivity within our local communities. It also encourages tourists to stay local, leave the car behind, and explore the surrounding towns and villages.”

William Cormacan, NPWS Midwest Manager, said, “We are delighted to partner with Clare County Council in developing this sustainable initiative, which will connect visitors and locals alike with the stunning landscapes and rich biodiversity of North and West Clare. This pilot project aligns with our commitment to preserving Ireland’s natural heritage while enhancing access to iconic sites like the Burren National Park. We encourage the community to join us at the upcoming consultation sessions in Miltown Malbay and Kilfenora to share their insights and help ensure this service meets the needs of both residents and visitors.”

Individuals interested in attending the upcoming consultation events are requested to register in advance via an online form at https://www.cliffsofmoher.ie/cliffs-of-moher-shuttle-bus.
