Mayor of Clare, Cllr. Clare Colleran Molloy, called a multi-agency meeting on Monday last to receive an update on the co-ordination of the provision of basic services to communities around the County during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the meeting the Mayor applauded the efforts of communities and local volunteers who have already mobilised in their respective communities, referencing that “the role of the convened Advisory Group is to enable & support that community spirit to ensure the continuity and sustainability of services to the vulnerable members of our County throughout the Covid-19 crisis. This inter-agency approach is critical to the success of this initiative ensuring that each agencies expertise in their respective fields is aligned in delivering much needed assistance within our communities.”

The meeting was chaired by the Mayor and attended by Clare County Council’s Rural & Community staff, representatives of Clare Volunteer Centre, Clare Public Participation Network (PPN), Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) together with An Garda Síochána, Health Service Executive (HSE) and Department of Social Community & Family Affairs (DSCFA), building on the existing relationship between all of these local agencies.

A model for delivering essential community-based services was agreed which will ensure that the most vulnerable in our society are assisted, by drawing on the volunteering spirit of communities across County Clare.

A dedicated telephone helpline for members of the public will be available in coming days once established by the telecommunications company, through which calls from the public, for assistance with groceries, medicine, fuel etc., will be circulated to registered Community Groups & Volunteers for response.
