Energy efficiency roadshow rolls into Ballinasloe

Energy efficiency roadshow rolls into Ballinasloe
February 26, 2025 by Dunphy Communications

Local communities and construction professionals from across East Galway are flocking to Ballinasloe this week to take up the offer of free training and information sessions on energy efficiency upgrades courtesy of a retrofit roadshow.

Galway County Council, in collaboration with Mount Lucas Construction Training Campus, is facilitating the innovative Retrofitting Rig on its visit to the Fair Green in Ballinasloe.

Members of the public, students, construction professionals and community groups have been exploring the Solar PV powered rig, which is equipped with cutting-edge technology including working heat pump and ventilation system, making it entirely self-sufficient. Its design lets participants see first-hand how emerging technologies are installed and function in real-world settings.

The rig last week travelled to Shantalla Community Centre and will be based in the University of Galway Campus next week as part of the Retrofit Rig Tour of Galway.

Denise Feeney, Community Climate Action Officer with Galway County Council commented, “By hosting this initiative, we are aiming to engage as many people as possible in understanding and implementing retrofitting measures. There has been significant interest shown in Shantalla and Ballinasloe in accessing the accredited training and practical demonstrations provided by Mount Lucas. The rig will remain in Ballinasloe until Friday and will travel to the University of Galway campus next week.”

Spaces for formal training sessions in the visit to University of Galway are limited, and early registration is recommended. For more information or to book a training slot, please get in touch with climate@galwaycity.ie.
